Today you are being laid to rest after your untimely death. At 29 years old you are gone too soon. This poem is just for you, plain, simple and straightforward, just like you liked to see the world. I will miss you and I will never forget you. Watch over us my angel…
I remember the first time I heard your voice
Excitement was bursting from it.
Starting your new adventure in a town that, ‘’…has nothing but a PEP wena!’’
You were so excited, so willing and perfectly-abled.
I think I loved that unquenchable spirit from then but I just didn’t know it yet
I remember the first time we had exercise class.
For need strong men who are not afraid of strong woman.
You said, ‘’uLynn you are my physio.’’
We laughed
Till the tears were
S t r e a m I n g down our faces.
And like I always do, I took a selfie of us laughing!
I remember the first time I saw you weep…
I came into your office saying, ‘’unandiwam’’- like I always did.
And you put your head on your desk and you wept-bitterly
I locked your office and just held you.
It was all you needed.
You missed your son.
I understood that day even more so the love a mother has for their child
I remember the last day I saw you and I said, ‘’see you soon!’’ (I’m not so sure about that now).
You wept again- bitterly.
A loud cry
A lament
That day I understood friendship even more so.
Unandiwam, you will forever be mine.
As I am yours.
Watch over us and stay fierce
